What happens if I fail the Kenntnisprüfung (knowledge test) for German nursing?

If you fail the Kenntnisprüfung on your first attempt, do not panic. Under German regulations, you are legally allowed to retake the exam one more time. You cannot take it a third time.

If you fail the second attempt, your nursing degree will not be recognized as equivalent to a German degree. At that point, your options are either to return to India, apply to work as a Nursing Assistant (Pflegehelfer), or pursue a full 3-year Ausbildung (apprenticeship) from scratch. We strongly advise taking preparation courses before the exam to ensure you pass.
